This museum catalogue that we published was the first to consider 81 paintings, drawings and
etchings of loosely looping lines produced by Brice Marden between 1988 and 1991, following
Willem de Kooning's final shows in New York (1985) and London (1986), that abruptly
announced Marden's turn from Minimalism to gestural abstraction. The text considers sources
of the Cold Mountain series, and situates the paintings in the evolution of Marden's art.
