We agreed with the artist to do a second volume of Richard Diebenkorn: Works on Paper, bringing forward many drawings not included in the first. We asked the printing company in Tokyo to prepare a dummy with white pages for composing with reproductions so that Diebenkorn could engage with it. We took the blank book to him. During the following visit we saw that he had been using it as a sketchbook. He had drawn sketches of a jacket that he later adapted as etchings. He drew his dog. It now is at Stanford in the collection of the Cantor Arts Center, designated Sketchbook #16.
